Following our 15-year anniversary in 2018, we enjoyed a very successful 2019, adding 12 new divers to our alumni family, bringing the total to 133 in 16 years, and adding two new mentors and one Caymanian intern to our team. Stephen Machak (certified in 2014) and Emma Albert (certified in 2015) each joined us for a week and supported a group of first-time divers both in and out of the water. And Valentia Bustos, our Caymanian intern, joined Stephen Machak in championing their six, first-time divers.

This year, for the first time, we ran two programs at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, and we are most grateful for the very generous sponsorship we receive. We ran our other two programs from our long-time host hotel, the Grand Cayman Marriott, where we are always treated like family and the place we often call “home.”

On November 3rd, all five members of Team Stay-Focused 2019 successfully crossed the Finish Line in the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon, and, as a team, we exceeded our fund-raising goal by more than 30%. I was honored to be part of the team and thank our runners for their enthusiasm and commitment. We have submitted our Charity Partner application for 2020 and requested 5 more bibs, for a total of 10, so we can join in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the NYC Marathon and the 20th anniversary of the wheelchair division. If you know runners who would like to join Team Stay-Focused 2020, please have them get in touch with me.

As 2019 comes to an end, please consider a tax-deductible donation to support our programs. Visit our website,, to donate and see how your financial support is used to change the lives of teens with disabilities in a unique and impactful way.

All best wishes for safe and joyful holidays and a great start to a happy and healthy New Year from all of us at Stay-Focused.
