As we enjoy the holidays and look forward to a brighter New Year, I am delighted to let you know we are optimistic about returning to Cayman in 2022. Based on a recent 10-day visit to Grand Cayman, where I met with supporters and sponsors, everyone will be welcoming us back next year. This is great news for all of us at Stay-Focused, who are looking forward to certifying new divers and having the divers we certified in 2019 back on island for their “reunion” program.

2021 has been a productive and successful year, as we focused on initiatives that will position Stay-Focused for its triumphant return in 2022. One of the most memorable events was the success of our Charity Partner Team in this year’s TCS New York City Marathon on November 7, 2021. It was great to see the crowd back in Central Park cheering on the runners as they crossed the Finish Line, and the team did an impressive job representing Stay-Focused and raising funds for our programs. We had eight members on our team who completed the 26.2-mile course, including Ryan Chalmers, who came out of wheelchair racing retirement to join the effort. This year’s team achieved its goal and raised more than $60,000. Many thanks to the 250 donors who contributed to their success!

We also pushed forward with an Endowment Campaign, as we begin to prepare for our 20-year anniversary in 2023. With a generous financial commitment from Tom McInerney, one of our Stay-Focused board members, we are in the initial stages of a campaign designed to ensure we will be able to run programs for many years. Building on our success in certifying in diving 133 teens and young adults with disabilities, and having solid supporters and sponsors, we are confident our campaign will exceed our expectations.

We will look forward to keeping you up to date on our plans as we return to programs in 2022. From all of us at Stay-Focused, we wish you healthy and enjoyable holidays and a great start to the New Year.
